Important Information
REALTOR® Members of Coastal Association are licensed through the Maryland Real Estate Commission. Below is a link to their website with valuable information for consumers.
File a Complaint
If you have a concern about a real estate professional, the appropriate place to file a complaint depends on the nature of the issue.
Not sure where to file?
If your concern involves a REALTOR®'s professional or ethical conduct, an ethics complaint may be appropriate. If you believe a real estate licensee has violated Maryland law or regulations, a complaint with MREC may be appropriate. In some circumstances, the same conduct may warrant contacting both organizations, as they address different standards and have different authority.
Transactional Complaint — Maryland Real Estate Commission (MREC)
A transactional complaint concerns the conduct of a licensed real estate salesperson or broker and may involve a potential violation of Maryland real estate law, regulations, or licensing requirements. These complaints are investigated and, when appropriate, disciplined by the Maryland Real Estate Commission, the state agency responsible for regulating licensed real estate professionals.
Ethics Complaint — Maryland REALTORS®
An ethics complaint addresses whether a REALTOR® has violated the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. It generally involves the conduct of a REALTOR® in their professional dealings with clients, customers, other real estate professionals, or the public. Ethics complaints are handled through the REALTOR® professional standards process and are intended to address violations of the Code of Ethics—not to determine whether a law or real estate regulation was violated.
